We have new plush carpet in our living room. This vacuum could not cope. The beater bar (bristles, roller assembly, whatever you call it) dug itself into the pile and clamped down. It would not move forward or back. I called Dyson support and was told that yeah, the vacuum won't work on new plush carpet and I should return it. So I did. For a company that stakes its reputation on engineering, it seems like Dyson could have or should have figured out a way to address this problem. The vacuum we ended up with has both a height adjustment and suction adjustment. I gave the machine 2 stars because, out of curiosity, I tried it in a room with older carpet and it worked fine. I don't want to have different vacuums for different rooms, so that was not enough to make me keep it. Another note on this seller: I am not sure the machine was new. The packing was a little odd and one of the small plastic pieces was broken. Just a suspicion, can't say for sure.
