Lost Picture, Sound, and Wouldn't Turn Back On an Hour After Delivery
This picture and sound on the TV disappeared completely less than an hour after it had been delivered, and about 15 minutes after I went through a rather tedious setup and started watching it. After the picture and sound disappeared, the TV simply would not turn back on. And what I learned was a error signal kept flashing red on the LED lamp below the screen. Sony customer support talked me through a factory reset, and the picture and sound returned, but only for a minute or two, and then the set went blank and silent, and the red error signal returned. Several more reset attempts led to the same outcome. So I called Sony customer service back and was really put off by what they put me through. At first they told me that the TV would need to be repaired rather than replaced. I'd only had it for about an hour and it failed completely within 15 minutes of watching it for the first time, so I insisted on returning it. At that point I was told that I could return it, but for a replacement, not a refund. Then Sony wanted me to take the TV down from the wall in order for me to get the serial number off the back. Thoughtlessly, Sony doesn't include the serial number on its paperwork. Then, after multiple questions that I'd already answered the fist time I called they told me I'd need to send them pictures of the serial number card on the back, a full picture of the TV when it is "On" (of course the problem I reported was that it won't turn on or stay on, so I couldn't send a picture of the TV "on.") Finally, they wanted a picture of the flashing red light.... I told them that I couldn't imagine why they'd want a picture of the flashing red light since I had told them that it was red and flashing, and I'd also told them how many times it flashed per flash cycle. But, they insisted that I upload an image of the red light, along with proof of purchase -- which I found to be insulting, unnecssery, and burdensome. They still couldn't confirm that they'll pick up the defective TV and replace it. Instead, they told me that they'd get back to me. (They haven't). An unneeded headache and a really bad experience.
