Cliffhanger endings should be banned
Spoiler free review! New author for me and this was a well written book. Ellie Kline is a likable character and does well here as a newly promoted detective investigating cold cases. Her first one ends up being connected with a traumatic experience in her past and things build nicely from there. There's a few rough scenes with the killer and his victims, but surprisingly there's no profanity at all which I can appreciate. A solid book except for the ridiculous cliffhanger ending which meant I came away disappointed. If an author wants to make a character the base of a series then more power to them, but I should be able to read the first book and come away with some satisfaction, not be forced to buy the second one to find out what happened! EDIT - 07/24/2020. So having now also read the second book in this series, I can tell you that also ends in a cliffhanger. I'm done with this series. Who knows when the actual story will be revealed but coming away without an ending two consecutive times leaves a bitter taste. Know what you're getting into here - a good story, but lots of disappointment. Not worth it
