History is mixed up
The writing is ok; a little flat, but enjoyable enough.
What prevented me from really getting into the story is a glaring historical error that came up again and again. The time traveller has gone back to England in 1605, and gets involved with a character who played a part in a significant event that took place in that year. So far, so good. The problem is that the author refers many times to 'the Colonies', and the main character tells people in 1605 that this is where she came from. A relative writes from a 'manor house' (plantation?) in Virginia, and later, we see a ship arriving at a busy port in Virginia. But...the English didn't establish a lasting colony in Virginia until 1607 (Jamestown), and even then, it took several years to get off the ground. The Pilgrims didn't land at Plymouth until 1620, which would be the earliest that anybody in England might have been able to refer to 'the Colonies'.
Some will consider this to be nitpicking, perhaps, but it's my preference when reading about time travel that the general historical details of the time/place travelled to are correct. Additionally, the 1605 characters think and talk pretty much like 21st century people.
