Had an old one, problems with the New one!
Just delivered this afternoon and I set it up. I had an old one of the same model that I had about used to death and I liked it very much. I read a lot of reviews that griped about the temperatures not being as advertised and I wondered about that ... since I had used my old one for so long (at least 6 years). The first thing I noticed when I unpacked the new one was that the heating element was so much SMALLER than the my old one! And the Control Assembly was so much lighter in construction. And one more thing that is different ... Plug it in and nothing happens. The Signal Light doesn't light up and ... No Heat !
When all the people complained about the heating element not heating the oil anywhere near what it was set at. Having never had this problem with my old one, I wondered what the problem was with all the negative reviews. Well, I can bet the MUCH SMALLER heating element might well have something to do with that problem !
I attached a photo that I just took showing the differences between the old and the new heating elements. Both are intended for a pot the same size and for the same amount of cooking oil. This size difference may well explain the reason why the newer (and smaller) heating element will not heat properly or as expected!
Now ... I'd like to check out the new Heating Element if I can just coax the deep frier into coming on !
Sadly, I cannot as both the old one's, and the new one's Signal Light will not come one. I am hesitant to blame the Control Units since BOTH will not work. Have some sorting out to do!
20 April 2016: I sorted out the reason for the Signal Light not coming on. The Heating Element has to be properly mounted onto the back of the box for the light to be able to come on. The middle slide has to connect with and depress a I guess it's called a safety switch in order to function. NOW ... about the negative reviews of recent purchases of the Presto Pro Deep Frier ... as I mentioned, I had used the bejeezus out of my old Presto Pro Deep Frier so I bought a replacement for it. Then I read the reviews complaining about the unit NOT being able to reach a temperature of 375º ... so, I decided to try that with my new unit. First thing I noticed was the much smaller size of the Heating Element that came with the newer unit ! No wonder it couldn't get temperatures about 350 ! Check out the photo of the older Same Model Presto and the new Same Model Presto ! I was able to get 375º with no trouble using the older Heating Element.
