Looks Nice BUT the welds are poor! DON'T BUY!
I've read various reviews on 3 ton and 6 ton jack stands, with and without the double locking pin. There has been some rumblings about poor welds. I uploaded a couple of pics (Amazon only posted one of them) of the poor welding job done on my stands. For me, as a mechanical engineer, this is unacceptable. These welds were certainly not done by a real, qualified welder or machine done and as a result are inferior. I will be returning these. IT IS NOT SAFE TO TRUST YOUR LIFE WORKING UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED BY THESE JACK STANDS! It was not long ago that a set of 6 ton jack stands were rated at 6 tons EACH and NOT as a pair. Maybe 5 years ago I had bought some Goodyear Racing 6 ton jack stands from Sam's Club that cost $26 for the pair. AND they were rated 6 tons EACH. They were very well made but are now discontinued. Google "Goodyear Racing 6 ton jack stands" to see what I am talking about. It is pretty disgraceful that a company like Torin, in business for some 30 years, has lowered their standards to produce these worthless products. Maybe Torin's quality will improve now that they have a new 100,000 square foot facility in Ontario, California. Maybe Torin will make a better product in the future? Only time will tell. I will not accept poor workmanship and neither should you. My safety is much more important and from what I have seen, Torin does not care about safety or quality. Otherwise, they would not try to sell us this inferior product for profit. On a side note, Torin is not alone in producing this garbage. The Craftsman product is also now made in China as are so many others. Heck, they are all probably made in the same factory - just painted different colors with different stickers and packaging. For alternatives, if you are looking for good safe jack stands, there are companies that make them but, they are at higher price points and many are professional quality. Hein-Werner products are available via Amazon. They are less costly than Snap-On. Or you could try to find a used, quality product through your local on-line classified ads.
