Didn't work for me and made hair loss worse
For about a month or so I've been experiencing a lot of postpartum hair loss. I've also noticed that for years my eyelashes have been much shorter and thinner than they used to be. After reading about some people having great results with hair growth with castor oil, I decided to give it a try. I have long (a little longer than to my bra strap on my back), fine, thin hair.
I read about people using castor oil as a hair mask, covering their hair with a shower cap, and sleeping overnight. I decided to put a decent amount in my hair (maybe a little less than a tablespoon?), massage the scalp for several minutes, put a shower cap on, and leave it in for one hour. While showering and shampooing my hair, I felt what felt like little furry animals sliding down my body onto the shower floor. I had copious amounts of hair loss after washing the castor oil out and afterward while combing my hair. I've attached one photo with some of the hair that fell out during my shower.
I obviously didn't try to use the castor oil anymore in my hair after that as it made my hair loss much worse. I have been trying for about a month to use it on my eyelashes after showering but it hasn't made any difference in my eyelash length. I've also tried applying it to some scars but the oil didn't help those either. The only reason I haven't returned the product is because my husband has painful eczema and he wants to try using the castor oil on his hands. Maybe this oil works differently for different people but I definitely wouldn't use it again for hair growth or to help fade scars and I would not recommend it to others for those purposes.
