The term is BRAT. Born. Raised. And. Trained. This book was written by people who have no knowledge of, or respect for, our culture or our identity. And she did know what we call ourselves...she just decided it was not something they could publish. So she decided to rename us. I am a BRAT. I'm a proud BRAT. I served this country along side my father. I didn't volunteer, but I did serve. and to have this upstart come in, deny my name and change it to suit her own purpose, and attempt to co-opt my culture without showing it any respect at all is offensive. Don't speak for me if you are ashamed of my name. I'm not ashamed of that title. I earned that title. I have made enough sacrifices, but I am sure as heck NOT about to sacrifice my name for someone who is not a part of my culture.
