Firmware compromised to route traffic via a computer in China
First, as a refurb I wasn't surprised to find it kind of set up and the factory reset didn't wipe the admin password. No problem, I still got it up and running, although I did have to find a vulnerability to get the password (under wifi it pre-populates the password, which you can copy paste to get it in plain text). First thing I noticed was my computer clock changed to another time zone. I then noted my ads were all in Chinese. I did a couple more hard resets and had it working for about 30 minutes running as normal until I found it reverted back and sent all my internet traffic via a computer in China again. Tried a couple more times and although I might be able to replace the firmware software with open source, I do not have that kind of time. For what it's worth, although terribly insecure, it had FANTASTIC range. To anyone buying, pay attention to the ads you see and if they are not for your location/region, don't risk your data getting skimmed and get rid of it. I am a certified hacker and this looks like something I would dream up.
