Dangerous and should be removed from Amazon immediately
This product is dangerous, and made our cat extremely sick. It is not powdered aluminum hydroxide. Do not attempt to use it in place of aluminum hydroxide powder under any circumstances. It is not what it appears to be, nor is it comparable to any grade of aluminum hydroxide I've purchased elsewhere. It is not a powder form; instead it is a NON-WATER-SOLUBLE granulation similar in consistency to sand. This sand-like stuff literally cannot dissolve in water, which is your first red flag: take a pinch and put it in a small bit of water (a few teaspoons should be enough), then swirl it around. Agitate it as much as you like. Does it dissolve? No. Does it dissolve after a few hours, or the 72 hours I gave it? No. It remains a sandy, gritty particle swirling around in the water, separating out. That is, I presume, why this product no longer advertises itself as aluminum hydroxide per se, but as some sort of "supplement." If the purpose of aluminum hydroxide in chronic kidney disease is to bind phosphorous within the body, the particle itself needs to be water-soluble so it can actually, you know, encounter some phosphorous and have a chemical reaction. This stuff is so far from a powder that it caused our CKD cat to begin vomiting it up along with hairballs several times a day (!)—something he literally had never done before. Meaning, we saw one hairball, once, and that was five years ago. Suddenly we were getting two every day. This Phos-Bind stuff was the only thing we had changed in his medication routine, so I wondered...maybe buying this stuff and swapping it out for the more expensive powder from the vet wasn't such a hot idea. We went to the vet, got the powder again (which costs 4x as much for the same quantity...), and *immediately* the cat's issues were gone. Not a hairball in sight, he is sleeping properly, and his phosphorous level is down again after blood testing (it had crept up after I quietly started substituting this stuff for the expensive vet stuff). Also, guess what? The powder from the vet is completely water-soluble. It creates a milky fluid and remains that way, dissolved. Science, people. I wanted to write this down because there are a lot of people who, like me, are trying to save a little money on the medicines they give their pets for chronic disease. It adds up. In many cases, you can do that, and it works out fine. In this case, it does not. I urge you not to buy this product to replace aluminum hydroxide powder for your pets, because it simply IS NOT a replacement. You will risk losing your pet in an effort to save some money. And, for what it's worth, I'm going to write this company and ask them to explain what the heck they're doing here. If I get a response, I will update this review.
