Singer is not what it used to be
After joining some online forums, I learned that Singer machines have kind of lost their good reputation. They are not what the old machines used to be. I wish I knew sooner. I regret choosing this machine. The issues I have had are that first of all, right out of the box, the entire front-loading bobbin case was in pieces, like not just the bobbin or cover but like 4 pieces and there was black grease everywhere. I looked for videos online to fix it but found nothing. I figured it out after a while. Second thing is that there are jagged parts sticking out of various areas of the machine. It bit me a few times but I’m getting used to it I guess. Ok, the bigger issues...The tension is crazy. It changes up whenever it wants! So annoying! It would be faster to hand sew if I have to rip out all these tiny seams. As many people are, I’m trying to brush up on my skills and churn out masks, so the seams are short. The thing jams up a lot too. I’ll start a seam and two stitches later, the needle just stops moving with the pedal. So I crank it with the dial, get no resistance, and the pedal works again. But why is it stopping?! Then, like I said, tension will change up. The top thread also comes undone on top of the machine quite a bit. I have to check it frequently and rethread it. But then another issue, every time I reverse, it somehow knots up and is not correctly stitching. It’s so annoying that I am just not securing the beginning or end of seams like you normally would. I end up having to cut the mess out anyway. I’m about a day away from returning it altogether. From everything I have gathered, everyone is saying that a Brother or Babylock would have been a better choice. I sold my old Singer last year and I so regret it now. They just aren’t what they used to be, at least at this price point. This M2100 was on the cheap side at $109 I believe but I did expect it to at least do the basics. Just trying to give you guys fair warning.
Edit: I also meant to add, it did not include all of the listed accessories or dust cover.
