I was really looking forward to this device, and I even pre-ordered one for a elderly disabled friend as well. The set-up was a hassel with bare-bones instructions. Sorry Amazon, referring me to the Alexa app is not good enough, if you don’t tell me where in the Alexa app, took a Google search to figure out it was a Bluetooth device set-up(not Smart Home device set-up). That as it turns out is the least of the problems with Echo Connect. If you live in Portland Oregon, you have to dial the area code and the the number(no 1 prefix) for local calls. I have tried to make a call from the contacts list that the Alexa app imported from my iPhone (only 2 contacts from 60+, because they have echo devices) the call failed because it added the 1. Tried to make a call by numbers... 503-XXX-XXXX. Call still failed. Tried everything I could and still can’t make an outgoing landline call rendering the device useless. Managed to receive a call. The delay is very annoying creating long silences during a conversation. This is on a 60+MBS connection, so I don’t think internet speed is an issue. Alexa seems to have issues ending a call. Takes repeated attempts with lots of yelling. No volume control. As great as this would be for the elderly, even with the dot volume jacked up with speakers, the volume on calls is way too low for anyone with even minor hearing problems. Returning these as defective. I will wait for v2 and see if they can put out a decent device next time. LOVE my Echo Dot... HATE Echo Connect.
