Batteries are extremely hard to replace
The enclosed instructions do not mention how to, or even if you can, replace the batteries. Some of the videos on YouTube are wrong (maybe for an earlier model). Birdie's own website contains no instructions or information about the batteries. I feel I have been deceived. I suspect Birdie is wanting to rip off its customers. Because, if you don't figure out how to replace the battery, you end up throwing away a perfectly good alarm and BUY ANOTHER ONE. Apart from the incredible waste of resources, filling up landfills with plastic and circuitry, it shows up the company as being very far from the ethical image they like to project "we donate to organizations that benefit women's safety".
Replacing the battery involves levering off the cover by inserting a thin blade screwdriver into the tiny slot on the side and twisting to force the two halves apart. This risks breaking the tabs that click into place when you close the covers. Even worse, you then need to unscrew the circuit board with a tiny screwdriver. The batteries are under that circuit board. When you do lift it off to replace the battery, make sure you don't end up breaking the very thin flimsy wires that connect the circuit board to the speaker.
As you can tell, I am very angry about this. Hey Birdie, if you are reading this, FIX IT. Provide an easy way of replacing the batteries, PUBLISH information on how to change batterieis, UPDATE the scrap of paper in the box that serves as the 'instructions'. Otherwise, I for one will never buy a product from you again. Hopefully others reading this review will concur that this is unacceptable, especially as it is one of the more expensive versions of the product. At least some of the others are either rechargeable or provide easy ways of changing batteries.
I also wonder about the fact that you attach it to the keyring by hooking it to the round pin at the top, risking it getting pulled and the alarm going off. Here's a tip, Birdie: find a way of creating a separate hook or slot or hole for attaching it to the keyring, rather than the pin that you pull to set off the alarm!
I would suggest folks, that you look at other, cheaper, alternatives until Birdie fixes these issues.
