First 1 was dead on arrival. 2nd one needed to be less than 10' from the router to work
I bought 2 of these and neither worked correctly. Some help for people having trouble. If it's not working correctly: Hard reset: Hold the orange button on the back for 30 seconds If it's still not working correctly: Factory Reset: Hold the orange button and the front button for 30 seconds If it's still not working plug it into your computer with the supplied USB cord. If it doesn't light up any lights it's completely dead and only good for a paperweight. If these do not work do not waste your time with Ring's customer support. Simply return it to Amazon. The first device I purchased wasn't working when it came out of the box. The front doorbell button was very stiff and barely moved when you pressed it. The device didn't ring when I pressed the button either. I called customer support and was happy to find their customer support is based in the US. Unfortunately, their customer service knows virtually nothing about their product. Through many calls to their customer support we finally figured out it was broken straight from the factory. They said they'd send a replacement right away. After a week and a half without hearing anything from Ring I called to follow up. Ring had entered my email information completely incorrectly and was waiting to hear back from me with what color I wanted. I told them we verified silver, the only color they had in stock, over the phone when they first told me they'd send a replacement. I waited 9 more days without hearing anything from Ring and then called back again to inquire about my replacement. They told me it had been shipped the same day I called but couldn't tell me the tracking number. She told me I'd need to talk with a tech to get that information. Seemed strange but she told me a tech would call me back within an hour. I waited a full day before calling back again. I again asked for a tracking number and was again told I'd need to speak to a tech and told to wait for a call back. I told him instead to cancel my order and further that I didn't believe it had even been shipped because neither UPS, FedEx, or USPS even have a shipping method that could take as long as they claim to have taken. Here we are another week later and I still haven't received the supposedly shipped item. So, I contacted Amazon for a replacement. Obviously the route I should have taken in the first place. Amazon sent a replacement 2 days later. I charged it and connected it without issue to my network. I tested it before installing and it worked OK. The person using the ring has to be pretty patient as it takes 30 - 45 seconds to send a message to the phone. The person using the ring also has to speak loudly and clearly to be picked up by the ring's microphone. Finally, the person using the ring has to put up with a very noticeable echo of their own voice being picked up by the phone's microphone and sent back to the ring. I installed it on the wall at my front door and the call took over a minute to connect to the phone. The video was blocky and spotty, delivering a stop motion style video. Audio was so broken up it was not usable from either end. I ended the call and tried again. It took nearly 2 minutes to connect and had the same video and audio issues. I tried a third time and it failed to connect entirely. A fourth time and after approximately 2 minutes it again connected with terrible video and audio. I removed the Ring from the wall and walked it towards the router while testing audio and video. Not until I was less than 10' from my router could the ring deliver satisfactory video or audio. It also couldn't deliver satisfactory video or audio when on the other side of a wall but only a few feet from the router. The router is 802.11n and 300mbps. My other devices show full bars where the ring was mounted at the front door. The router also has no trouble streaming HD video and sound to multiple devices throughout the house, several much further away than the front door. I really wanted to love this but unless I'm willing to install my router outside right next to the ring at the front door it's just not ready for prime-time.
