★☆☆☆☆
The class of reality TV with the pacing of a root canel
Liz Crowe is looking to tell a story, no seriously. It is all tell and only 'show' during sex scenes. Most of the book is people thinking about about other people and sometimes you can get them to talk about other people. There are very few plot points to this book. I flat out call bulls*** on a man thinking so systematically and in such a homoerotic fashion about his brothers. A substantial portion of the first half book is him thinking about his brothers. Not past events or anything just cataloging personality traits and people they slept with.
*spoilers*
Things you need to be okay with before reading this book -
-"romances" where both the guy and the girl have sex with other people and that is shared with you graphically, I don't mean threesomes but that too
- Unprotected sex with a random from a bar
- A man who abandoned his child and is still currently actively avoiding caretaking his minor child being considered a 'good catch'
-An entire cast of characters who look down on an insult "those people in big houses" and also anyone so incompetent that they don't own their own business, this strange lower upper class are the only good people thinking shows up over and over again and voiced by several characters
How the Love Family behaves at the BBQ party to talk about sick mothers medical situation-
- Throw a party to discuss serious family business, how tacky is that? Most people just call or gather round not bring dates and grill meat
- Spend no time actual talking about the condition, how the family is going to cope or giving support towards the sick woman. Just pause your personal conversations long enough to get a three sentence update and then do not speak of it or think of it again.
- Bring a date that openly dislikes the whole family, to the point of publicly wiping her hands after hand shakes. However, I can't judge with all the unprotected sex and finger banging (her word choice, I haven't used that sense I was old enough to vote)
- Abuse and mock that woman for showing up to your house until she leaves
- Bring a four year old to this discussing cancer party
- Don't forget to have sex multiple times with as many people as possible at this talking about cancer BBQ family party while 4 year old is left unsupervised.
- Discuss why the 16 year old girl can no longer live with sick woman about to have surgery and start chemo in front of the girl. Make sure that she and a group of 20 people witness the public argument of everyone saying how awful she is and why they don't want her. Most vocally her father.
Now you may be thinking at this point that it is worth while not as a romance but as a soap opera car wreck and one of the 3 star reviewers says so. However, I found the characters to boring and their thoughts and fights to redundant to enjoy. Some how these awful people doing stupid and awful things is bone dry.
