★★☆☆☆
Description is misleading.
Update: After using this a little longer and buying 2 new kits, the mold has returned on both. It’s too time intensive to clean this properly and prevent mold from growing on the oddly shaped rubber piece. And i’m not buying a replacement gasket ($4.50) every time this happens.
This product is a great idea just not thought out all the way though. The biggest benefit is the ability to hold hot and cold food side by side AND be leak proof. That was tough for me to find in most lunch kits when I searched last. However, after receiving the product, I found that most of the features worked as advertised only under certain conditions.
For instance, the product is supposedly dishwasher safe but only if you remove it before the heated dry cycle. So instead of starting the dishwasher and letting it run all the way through and concentrate on something else (like for every other dish), this one item must be removed just in time or risk damaging the product. Since you have to keep an eye on it anyway, might as well just wash it by hand. --> so "dishwasher safe" in this case doesn't mean anything.
The description says 3 leak proof compartments, but the large square section (for the thermos/sandwiches) is only considered leak proof when the thermos is in there. And that's due to the separate thermos cover. Seems like with a little tweak (make the gasket protrude more around the square section, you could have a leak proof seal even when the thermos isn't in. Now, when the thermos is not in, there's a slight gap between the lid and the box which could allow other things through besides air. Therefore I don't even use this section for sandwiches ---> so this limits my options for making sandwiches or other cold food unless I jam it into the thermos or use more plastic bags (trying to avoid this). --> so if you want to put a sandwich in, better put it in a separate bag first.
Also the divider used to separate food sections isn't leak proof so stuff will mix within each compartment. Seems like with another little tweak, they could have just made the divider taller and added rubber around the sides so it touches the top, bottom, and sides of the compartment completely separating the food. -> so the divider doesn't really make extra sections unless its dry. If it's semi wet, you have to drain the excess water out, hoping more water won't drain later.
Lastly cleaning the gasket is a pain. The shape is odd because it is wedged into the lid and folds around the lip of each section. My last one got mold on it within a week even though I cleaned it everyday with warm soapy water.
So overall this idea is promising but executed poorly and the description isn't completely accurate. I like the ability to give hot food for my kids for lunch but the other things mentioned above make this lunch kit a pain.
Hope that helps and Omie addresses the tweaks above because this could be a great lunch kit that easily justifies the $40 price tag.
