This is actually a very poorly fabricated chess set. The hinges are misaligned, there is a running crack when the two halves are closed and the quality of the finish is ver amateur. It's has been made by an amateur. The varnish on the veneer has also been scraped. The screws in the brass catches are not fully screwed in. The pieces are ok but the wood of the board has been unfinished in places.... and appears to be simply rough cut. Overall this is very very cheap construction. For $30 - it's way over priced. Perhaps this should be priced at about $10~$12.
