From bingeworthy to cringeworthy in 448 pages
This book does a serious disservice to the people-like my mother’s family in Dust Bowl South Dakota- who actually suffered through this devastating period. Her tales of fighting the constant dirt and dust, the hunger, the clothes made from flour sacks- I was so sorry that they had to endure this. They too went on the Dole which my grandmother was still ashamed of 50 years later. They got barrels of clothing and goods from large Lutheran churches back East. Mom said the nicest thing she had her entire life was a used, pink leather jacket from one of those barrels.
But one thing they would NEVER EVER do was take any so called help from Communists. Where on earth does the author come up w a Communist hero? Mom is spinning in her grave at the thought that her troubles were used as a pretext for some fashion statement, uninformed Communist apologia. Do your homework folks. Read The Bronze Horseman by Paulina Simons. You can buy it right here on Amazon.
I am so sorry that I paid for this book and made this anti-capitalist author even richer. Never again.
Shame on you Ms Hannah for debasing my beloved mother and grandmother’s memories.
