Died and killed my computer
Bought this in June 2018. Plugged in my Dell Optiplex Tower, Two monitors, Printer, external backup Hard drive, Couple of phone cords, some remote speakers and a pencil sharpener. Worked fine until one day in late Feb 2019, when while using the computer and not touching the tower at all, the tower started making arching sounds, and then before I could do anything, the computer clicked off, and the computer would not power up and it was making a ticking sound, even while unplugged.
I looked up the order saw that this 'surge protected' tower had a warranty but when I click on the the link it has no info and says to contact Anko. I googled Anko and no luck finding the manufacture. I called Amazon and while on the phone, when I touched the tower, the lights flashed on and off and we all could here the arching sound again. I unplugged everything from the tower. Amazon emailed me with Anko's contact info and told me to contact them via the market place, which I did, with all the order info and questions about their warranty policy. They responded fast, but did not answer any of my questions. They then sent a tracking number. I emailed that I did not want other tower, as I feared plugging anything into it and I requested them to please answer my questions, especially the warranty details and if my computer was covered. After this back in forth, they responded again, still no warranty and no answers to my questions, but asking what I wanted them to do to solve the problem. Good question, I wrote that I wanted refund for the tower and payment for a used replacement for my computer. At this point I had confirmed my hard drive was dead, and the power supply worked off and on. I could get the computer to turn on, but not boot up. I researched used Dell Optiplexes on ebay and told Anko that a used replacement would cost about $400. 4 days and no response. Calls to the Anko number amazon gave me gets voicemail only. Left message, no call back. Called Amazon again and they said to try contacting Anko again and wait awhile longer, and to call back if nothing was resolved. Emailed Anko again, called and left a message again, and still no response. So I posted this review.
Update: I finally got a response. But still no Warranty details. They said, "Hello, I have contacted our engineers. He told me that if the voltage is unstable, it will not damage your hard drive." It damaged my power supply. I responded again with another request for a copy of the warranty and even included an example of another companies surge protected warranty. It has been over a week, no email response or call back. I escalated this to Amazon, who tried to reach them and could not. ADVICE: When searching Amazon for power strip or tower, include the word lifetime, and make sure it has real surge protection and a warranty with a dollar amount. Tripp Lite 8 includes a $75000 lifetime insurance and cost $20 for its surge protected power strip.
