How can you go wrong with the 2016 Cubs?
...the answer lies within the pages of this book.
This is the first book to be published regarding the historic Chicago Cubs' 2016 World Series championship, and it shows. Poorly written (as is his website, [...]), it is clearly a quick cash-in as opposed to any real thought or effort being put into what has been called "The last great American sports story".
It's painfully apparent upon reading that the author is more intent on making it into his memoir than any chronicling of the Cubs. He writes about being in a group of bloggers interviewing Tom Ricketts, rather than making any attempt at simply getting out of the way of what is one of the true compelling stories in baseball history. There is no reason the writer needs to add his first Cub game into a story of the 2016 Cubs. Or his deciding to go off on a tangent about spring training ticket prices. It's irrelevant. But at least now we know where the author stands on chiropractors.
Many books will be written about the team that finally ended the Cubs' 108 year World Series drought. Each subsequent one will be better than this, sight unseen. I gave this book one star, only because zero was not an option. One hopes that any future efforts by Yellon are sent to an actual editor prior to publishing. It's every bit as laborious to read as a high school paper that has a minimum word count. Also, his misuse of punctuation is brutal.
This is tantamount to releasing a Beach Boys retrospective, only to have every song be "Kokomo".
My only regret is that a fine broadcaster like Pat Hughes has his name attached to this tripe.
