60hz refresh with displayport. Weird power/flickering issues.
UPDATED 08-08-2015 to remove 1 star. Samsung technical support said i was within warranty, but they would not service it. They had me shut off and unplug everything, then power on the monitor with just power cable connected. The bouncing "no connection" came up, and they said that was the extent of their liability to the warranty. I used to trust samsung as a brand, but after this i will probably never buy another samsung display. Ugh.
First of all, this monitor's picture is - bar none - the best i've ever seen. You MUST have displayport on your videocard if you want to use 4k resolution at 60hz refresh rate (60fps). This took so much digging and research that i knocked a half star off for my time spent. With HDMI, or any sort of converter, 4k only runs 30hz - although 2k and 1080p run 60hz no problem even with HDMI. All my games look great in 4K, and having FOUR 1080p screens worth of pixels means i can hold 4 times as many windows on the same screen space as my other monitors. Movies look fine, although i haven't tested blu-ray on it yet, i can't foresee any issues with quality there, either. This is truly a samsung display.
the other 1.5 stars i took off were for the power issues i have. When the monitor goes to sleep, there's a good chance it won't wake up, even with button presses. I have to get behind it, unplug the barrel adapter, and plug it back in. My computer notices that i unplug the barrel adapter, which leads me to believe that it's a firmware issue with the monitor as opposed to some defective power supply component. That is, since my computer sees a device being removed, there must be power getting to some part of the monitor's internals - otherwise the computer would balk whenever the power supply failed to begin with, not when i unplugged it.
The second power issue; occasionally the screen will flicker or shut off for about 1 second, maybe 1.5 seconds. Computer doesn't notice this, so again, it's something internal to the monitor that's having an issue. the power indicator light doesn't change status when this happens.
