A must read review. Testing and results. Pros and Cons.
So a lot of people claim these adapters and others like them change the effectiveness of the charge. Being a natural skeptic I thought I'd find out for myself if those statements are true or if people just expect things to magically happen just because they paid for something and dislike change. Using the same extension cord and the same charge head I tested 2 cables. Both are brand new and never been used. The mini usb cable is a $6 generic cable I bought from a gas station and the usb C cable came with my Samsung 360 camera. I allowed both to charge my phone for 5 mins. in the same environment so that temperature wouldn't be a factor. The results are pretty similar. The type C cable had a broader range of charge capacity, but a slightly higher voltage. The mini usb was a more consistent charge. The important thing to note is they charged my phone at the exact same rate. Will this change? Of course. All cables wear over time and eventually lose the ability to provide a good charge. But the availability of mini usb cables compared to type C make these adapters well worth the purchase. Getting 10 of them means that even if a few go bad, I have plenty of spares and if the cable goes bad I can get a new one pretty much anywhere. Until type C becomes the norm and more readily available, this is a great option. All that being said, I'm not sure I trust these enough to connect my drone controller to my phone using one of these. If my phone fails to charge, thats just annoying. If I lose connection to my controller, that could be catastrophic. I will continue to run these tests and if I get any drastically different results, I will update this review. Until then Im very happy with this purchase. *Update* so I have ran into some issues. Im still using the same adapter I started with and its already began to have the back and forth wobble that all chargers get. After just a few days the adapter no longer fits snug into my phone. Because it elongates the part that gets the most amount of tension during use, it wears quickly. This of course has great effected charging capabilities. I'm seeing results well below 100mah pretty regularly now. Unless I move the adpater around attempting to find the sweet spot where the connection is adequate, the phone actually disperses energy faster then it can charge. This of course is a major issue and I dont recommend anyone do it. It will damage the port on your phone over time. With those factors taken into consideration, I am changing my review to 3 stars from 5. Im hoping by changing adapters and being more careful when plugging and unplugging, this issue will take longer to present itself again. Again, I will update this review if my results differ after some further use. *Final Update* after my initial review I was contacted by the seller to review this product. It served as a reminder to edit an add what turnes out to be the 2nd update. After editing and submitting the seller accused me of bias and reported my review, clearly and intentionally abusing Amazons report system. My review was removed and my account was left in bad standing with the Amazon community. Unable to review any products, ask any questions, I immediately contacted Amazon and they reversed the decision. I no longer use these extensions. Ibe power tested each and every one. 7 of them do not work. Im disappointed not only with the product, but also with the sellers reaction to what amounted to be a very well explained and honest review of their product. Shame on them for abusing the system and calling my character into question. If I knew how to send them their product back, I would. Refund be damned.
