Makins Not worth the Money in the long run
I bought one of these last year and have used it sparingly since I'm a newbie to claying. A month or so ago I tried to use it and it locked up. When I wrote to Makins they told be they'd get back to me. I waited a few weeks then wrote again letting them know I was most displeased with them. They gave me a 'lip-service' apology and offered to sell me a replacement plunger for $4.25.
I am including my reply here:
Something in your previous e-mail (included) has been bothering me since I read it and I finally realized what it is. I feel compelled to bring this up in the interest of fair business practice; you stated that "the green aluminum extruders are designed to be light-weight, portable and intended for “soft” and “malleable” modeling mediums only". However, on the box this came in (along with all the others I've seen) it states that this product can be used with "all types of clay". Nowhere does it mention that using firmer clay will cause the tool to break down and become useless in a fairly short amount of time. Nowhere does it mention that trying to use any of the included dies will create an issue either.
I've heard from other people that when they too have a problem with any of your equipment Makins is not willing to back up their products. Many are willing to shrug it off and just go buy another or something else. I, however, feel that if nothing is said, nothing is done. And though I do not expect your company to do anything to make this issue right, I do feel it necessary to let you know of my displeasure and my forward intention not to purchase anything with the Makins brand name in the future.
I am also passing on my experience to my fellow clayers on Facebook and other media so they will not waste their money on a product that will, inevitably, cause them to spend money unnecessarily.
