DO NOT PURCHASE! HEALTH HAZARD!
**DO NOT PURCHASE**
I was SO ready to fall in love with this espresso pot. Beautiful design, great price point, and the product description says stainless steel—yay! I was SO excited to find a reasonably priced stovetop espresso pot with no aluminum (which is hazardous to health; it’s linked with Alzheimer’s Disease). So imagine my dismay when I unscrewed the pot to examine the parts and found that the water chamber at the bottom of the pot is LINED WITH A NON-STICK COATING!!! NOOOOOO!!!! The water chamber smells strongly of chemicals, so this is a highly unstable non-stick coating. The worst possible design choice. This is quite literally a recipe for poisoning your coffee and ingesting “forever chemicals” that your body will NEVER be able to rid itself of. Non-stick coatings are an EXTREME HEALTH HAZARD (google it, or watch the film “Dark Waters” if you don’t believe me). The only way non-stick coatings can be used safely in cooking is over low-to-medium heat. Well, the whole damned point of this pot is to BOIL WATER. There is no earthly reason to coat the inside of a stainless steel espresso pot with a non-stick coating—unless the pot is actually ALUMINUM on the inside and the stainless steel is only cosmetic. I do detect aluminum around the gasket at the bottom of the carafe section, and the color of the inside of the water chamber causes me to suspect that it is in fact aluminum covered with a non-stick coating. How perverse to coat aluminum with something even more hazardous to health! It boggles the mind. There should be an international ban on non-stick coatings, or at the very least, the stinky (and therefore obviously chemically unstable) ones like the coating Godmorn used in this pot. If we lived in a just world, these highly carcinogenic coatings would have been banned by the WHO decades ago.
And to make matters worse, there is NO REFERENCE to the presence of aluminum or a non-stick coating ANYWHERE in the packaging, the instruction manual, or the online product description. As far as I am concerned, this is deliberately deceptive. The only inkling one gets of any sort of admitted health hazard is the fact that the instruction manual tells you to brew not one, but three pots of espresso (yes, espresso, not just plain water or vinegar solution the way you might expect) and then throw them away before you can drink the coffee.
GODMORN, *please* redesign this pot. This lovely looking pot is a straight-up health hazard as it is now. Please use food grade stainless steel inside and out. Ditch the aluminum. And for God’s sake, DITCH THE NON-STICK COATING.
I’m hanging my head in personal disappointment and in a general sadness for the world at large that industry is so irresponsible. Most people who buy this will follow the instructions (or worse, disregard them), and poison themselves on a daily basis, never knowing the dangers of both aluminum and non-stock coatings. What a world.
Packing this up and returning for a refund ASAP.
