Buyer Beware: this is a Bootleg
There's a very simple reason why this set is a bootleg --- it's not possible for the Grave of the Fireflies English dub to legally be a part of this collection. The reason Disney has international home video distribution rights (excluding Asia) for Studio Ghibli works is because they have a distribution agreement with Tokuma Shoten, which is Studio Ghibli's parent company. Grave of the Fireflies, however, isn't owned by Tokuma Shoten --- it's owned by the publisher of the novel that the movie was based on, Shinchosha. This is largely why Disney has never had licensing rights to Grave of the Fireflies in North America, as it was previously licensed by Central Park Media and is currently licensed by Sentai Films. And since Disney doesn't have distribution rights in Asia, it's impossible that a compilation boxed set with English dubs from both Disney and Central Park Media could ever be released in Malaysia. Also, Studio Ghibli is very protective of their properties --- after the 80's butchering of "Nausicaa" into the atrocious "Warriors of the Wind" by New World Pictures, they wouldn't allow for Region 1 releases of their works until Disney promised to give proper releases to their properties in the late 90's. Even when one of Disney's producers suggested making edits to Princess Mononoke to make it more palatable to the Western market for the original theatrical release, Studio Ghibli sent a katana to the Disney Headquarters with the simple message "no cuts" attached. Ghibli would NEVER allow for this sort of sub-par economy pack release in Malaysia, or ANY country for that matter. And one only needs to look at the collection cover itself to see right off the bat that it's a bootleg. The logo shown for the item picture is actually the emblem used for The Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka Japan, which is something like a children's amusement park. Studio Ghibli itself is in Tokyo Japan, and their official logo has always been the Totoro next to the company name. If you want to say "thank you" to Miyazaki and all of the animators at Studio Ghibli, support their works by purchasing the official releases. Otherwise you're only supporting thieves who want to profit off the hard work of others. Update February 2012: I've reworded parts of this review for clarification and to add more details, and have also confirmed that the official Japanese July 2012 Blu-Ray release for Grave of the Fireflies only has the Japanese language track (no English) on Amazon.co.jp.
