So disappointing on several levels
I stay up late to receive my new Daniel Silva book right after midnight on the day of publication. I have read all of his books, but this book is the first I haven’t liked.
The plot: predictable and the formulaic. A regular reader of this series could almost plot it out after a couple of chapters, except for the very end. There are many wonderful, beloved characters in this book from previous ones, but they just rolled along—nothing new or interesting about them. And, as others have commented, Gabriel’s character was not very interesting or dynamic. None of the characters “grew” in the book. I missed that.
We’ve all had two years of Covid AND wretched politics in the USA since 2016. I surely don’r want to replay that while I am reading. I would also prefer not to know an author’s political preferences. This author sounds like his hair is on fire. The politics, on top of the books other shortcomings, were just too much for me.
