When I first saw it on Amazon, I thought it was made of metal, probably aluminum as most are. It didn't look like plastic in the photos. Instead of having a cold shoe mount on the top as many others have, this has a 1/4" screw hole on the top which would limit use to only accessories that would have the ability to use it. Cold shoe is more versatile. I returned the item to Amazon and purchased one made of aircraft aluminum for around the same cost. One other comment, this same unit without their name on it is available at a much lower cost. Assume they all are made by the same Chinese factory that sells to a number of resellers.
