Based on the reviews I read at the time I purchased this, I was the first (or one of the first) to actually buy the product outright. It was not given to me free or at a discount for writing a review. Initially I was excited. The photographs scanned quickly and easily. I checked the first dozen or so before I did a bunch more, and they looked okay, so I scanned several hundred more in. When I downloaded them to the computer, lo and behold, there were some of the lines through the photos that have been mentioned in reviews for nearly every scanner of this type. Oddly enough tho, they weren't consistent. It's not like once a line showed up in the scanned photo, that it showed up in every photo after that. Overall, the lines showed up in about 20% of the scans. and often, they could be cropped out. My larger issue with the product is the quality of the scans, and I tried some of the photos with problems at both the 300 dpi resolution and the 600 dpi. The 600 wasn't noticeably different to my eye. But any photo with anything dark in it scanned the dark areas blotchy and uneven. Many of my son's early photos were in a room with wood paneling, and those didn't come out well. Any of his clothes that were dark colors - blue, black, dark green - those colors came out the same way. And for some reason, when the dark colors didn't scan well, the facial tones were all blotchy also, while on other photos facial tones were fine, so it had something to do with how the scanner recognized the darker shades and tried to compensate for them or something. At any rate, all of those photos were unusable and I had to rescan them on a flatbed scanner. For the time I spent going back through to find the individual photos that needed rescanned and scanned them, I could have just scanned the entire batch on my flatbed in the same amount of time with a much lower stress level. I ended up rescanning just under 50% of my photos because of the uneven color blotches - way more than rescans for the lines thru the photos. I returned the product. If I had been able to instantly view on my computer screen each scan as it completed, I probably would have kept it, because the ease of scanning was great, and had I been able to know right away there was a problem, I could have just thrown that photo on the flatbed right away. However, while you can ultimately upload the scans to your computer, all of the initial scans have to go to a flash drive or a memory chip, which then has to be uploaded to the computer. It's like a 3-step process, not at all feasible for one photo at a time. The concept is great, the execution of it still needs some tweaks.
