UPDATED REVIEW - An Unfortunate Disappointment
Background:
I used the original Jaybird BlueBuds X for about 3 years for everything from running to everyday casual listening during commutes. They have recently finally started to suffer from issues holding a charge and I certainly got my money's worth. Since then, I was really excited about the truly wireless scene and bought a pair of the Jabra Active 65t's the moment they released. While the sound quality was great, I could not get them to stay in my ears, even when just walking and the charging case was clunky and cheaply constructed. I then gave the V-MODA - Forza Metallo Wireless earbuds a chance, and while the sound quality was excellent, the unnecessarily long cord was constantly getting in the way of my face and the heavy base that resides behind the neck kept slipping so I returned that as well. At this time, the X4's had just released and I was initially dissuaded by the early reviews on here. Eventually, I decided to give in and give it a shot for myself since I loved my original Jaybird X's so much. I'm very glad I did.
The X4's:
The Jaybird X4's are exactly what I was looking for in a pair of earbuds that I can both use on a daily basis for commuting and going out for a run after work. The sound quality is excellent, especially after tweaking the equalizer through the Jaybird app. The promised waterproofing is an excellent piece of mind, granted I haven't actually ran through a rain storm in them yet. Battery life had been consistent with what was promised. It fits very securely and I have complete confidence while running. The only flaw I noticed thus far was the cinch system that they swapped the cord management clips out for with this generation. While great on paper, it just gets in the way and snags when rotating my head. Luckily I still have the clips that were used in previous generations from my Jaybird X's that I swapped the cinch out for and that solved the problem completely. I also have another pair of clips on the way free of charge after contacting Jaybird directly to request them.
Don't be dissuaded by the poor reviews. Give them a try and form your own opinion.
-------------------------UPDATE-------------------------------
I've now had these for 6 months and I unfortunately have to report that I can no longer recommend them, which is really disappointing. After only a few months, the battery life has already degraded substantially and now provides about half the duration it did initially. Additionally, the Bluetooth connection of the buds constantly get interrupted when I'm walking while connected to my phone that is 3 feet away in any of my pockets. I initially thought it was my phone as it was a couple of years old, but I just upgraded to the new Samsung S10E, and it produces the same exact result. Jaybird no longer produces high-quality products and I am now going to have to find something else. I suggest you do the same.
