I actually really like this spreader and just used it to fertilize my two acre yard. If I hadn't had to rebuild the gear box during the assembly process, I would have probably rated it 4.5 stars. The only issue is like others say the spring on the hopper handle is pretty weak, but it worked okay for me and can be easily augmented if necessary later. The reason I rated it two stars is that I got the entire thing assembled, and I would rate the assembly process a 3 as instructions were okay and there were some tricky parts but nothing anyone who's considering buying this type of piece of equipment shouldn't be able to handle, was due to the fact the gear box was actually assembled completely wrong at the factory and was totally non-functional. If you look at the photo you can see the axle gear never touches and can't touch the way it's assembled, the gear to turn the spreader. Terrible quality control. I had to disassemble it, rotate the axle gear, and then reassemble and now it works like a champ. So I got unlucky and got a crappy unit from the factory, but I was able to fix it. This was a little challenging but not too hard, and now am very happy with the unit. Would I order again and recommend to a friend? I don't know. I do know that I would better research the competition and their prices a little more thoroughly. That said, as long as you don't mind an extra hour or so of work in case you have to fix the unit out of the box, this one does work well when it works.
