Too dense to work right
When we bought our Catit Flower fountain, I ordered a 6-pack of these filters because Amazon suggested them and the reviews were largely positive. The best thing I can say about these filters is that yes, they do *fit* in our Catit Flower fountain. Aside from that, they're a poor substitute from the filters made by Catit.
I noticed right away when I unwrapped the first filter from this pack that the white material on top of the filter was very different from the filter that came with the fountain. Rather than light, fluffy, and porous, the material used to make these was flat and dense. When I put one in the fountain, there was a noticeable difference in the sound of water trickling through the fountain, but I didn't think much of it at first.
A few days passed, the cats consumed a lot of the water, and the trickling noise became louder, which is normal. But when I went to put more water in, I noticed water pooled up on top of the filter itself, as if it was very full, which it wasn't. It was only then that I figured out what was happening. Rather than flowing down through the filter, water was simply trickling back down into the reservoir through the little squiggly "overflow slot" along the back of the green piece that supports the filter. The top layer of these filters is just too dense for water to flow through properly.
In the pictures I've included, the Catit brand filter is on the left, the PetStandard filter on the right, so you can get some sense of the difference. Notice how on the Catit filter, you can easily see the color of the filtering medium underneath because the white top layer is fluffy. The top of the white layer on the PetStandard filter is smooth, a bit shiny. It's so dense that you can't see through it, and water doesn't pass through it properly. I suspect that filters like these may be responsible for some people's pumps breaking, since the water isn't being filtered like it should be. And if you've noticed that your pets aren't as interested in your fountain as they were at first, this also may be why. Needless to say, I won't be buying these again.
