We have had this trash can for 2 1/2 weeks and now every time we open the lid it makes a loud croaking noise. If you do decide to go with this can the lid is very fragile. The first time we opened it (with normal amount of pressure on the foot pedal) the lid opened further than it is intended and hit our granite counter tops leaving a line etched in, so now I put my hand on top of the lid just Incase
