I need a cane for balance and for walking. I usually use a Hugo Quadpod Offset Cane which I'm very happy with, but I bought a HurryCane for a trip to NYC because I wanted something that would fold up on the train and in the theater. First, I didn't like the handle, not nearly as comfortable as the Hugo. The cane is much lighter and not nearly as sturdy as the Hugo either - I'm only 135 lbs so weight isn't an issue but it still didn't feel sturdy when I leaned on it. As for standing up on it's own, the base is very small and will only stand up in ideal conditions (tile or concrete, perfectly flat and no breeze). The first day I used the cane I did a lot of walking. It didn't take very long at all until I looked down and noticed that one of the rubber pads had broken off. This caused some problems but I continued using it. The second day the other 2 pads broke off which left me with a useless cane for the rest of my vacation. I consider the HurryCane to be a complete waste of money and would not recommend it to anyone! Unfortunately, because I bought it 6 weeks before I actually used it, I can't even return it for a refund - don't make the same mistake.
