Ineffective and Incorrect description
I purchased this fan with realistic expectations after researching several other brands and reading many reviews. Even so, I am underwhelmed and have returned this fan. Interestingly, I appear to be the first reviewer who has not been discounted or given the item in exchange for an "honest review".
This "Liank" branded fan is a four blade Chinese version of the original "Ecofan" Canadian-made Caframo 800CAXBX Limited Original Ecofan. I was initially planning to buying a Caframo, but the claims made in the product description persuaded me to purchase this one. Unfortunately, I find these claims are inaccurate and misleading.
First off, the description states "MAINTENANCE-FREE! No motor means nothing to wear out!" This peaked my interest and curiosity as the Caframo fan utilizes a motor that only lasts "several seasons" before needing replacement, according to its own product manual. I must admit, no motor sounds too good to be true, but there are other technologies out there, such as the Vulcan Stove Fan (Stirling Engine Powered). Sure enough, as soon as I open the box, I clearly see a small electric motor housed behind the blade. It is somewhat enclosed behind a small removable plate, so perhaps the manufacturer thought we just wouldn't notice. I can't believe this motor is somehow immune to the same stresses that cause the demise of the Caframo motor, so I wouldn't expect more than a few seasons out of this one either.
Secondly, the claimed airflow of up to 190 CFM also led me to purchase this fan. Even the most expensive, largest Caframo 812AMXBX Limited AirMax Ecofan with a 9" blade advertises only 175 CFM. This unit's blades are only about 6.75". I understand that this is in ideal conditions (max temp, etc.) but I have serious doubts that this comes anywhere near 190 CFM. For reference, this is more than a high power model bathroom exhaust fan such as the Panasonic FV-15VQ5 WhisperCeiling 150 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan, White.
With my stove top at about 400 degrees F (about as hot as I ever get my 2-year old, high-efficiency wood stove), measured with my non-contact laser thermometer, I could barely feel any air flow. The thing spins, and it is almost silent, but it doesn't seem to do much. While I have no way to actually measure CFM, I did directly compare this against against a old, small 8" electric fan I have, on low, and it is nowhere, remotely, in the realm of comparison. I would describe this fan's air flow as if a small child was standing behind the stove, blowing over it. That's not going to do much, and neither does this fan.
