Depressing and isolating
I admire Matt Paxton's work on Hoarders and Legacy List, and this book has some good lists with details about managing paperwork and steps to decluttering. However, the entire premise for decluttering success is completely based on having people do it with you, and paying attention to you. On Step 1 he states: "If you are in the process of decluttering, downsizing, or moving, telling your stories to an interested audience is the magic key." EVERY example throughout the book describes success ONLY if you are in the company of a good listener who can hear your stories behind photos, books, and all the artifacts of your life. It's all about telling someone about yourself, and not any info on reflecting on how to approach introspection, on understanding how/why you've accumulated so much in the first place, and most importantly, how to successfully declutter on your own.
