Inaccurate, Waste of money
My husband has ESRD and is on peritoneal dialysis done at home. Thus we take his vitals four times a day. This thermometer consistently read his temperature as 99 degrees or above. His temperature is consistently 97 to 98. In his case a fever can mean peritonitus and a rapid death. However, because he had no other symptoms - and we had just gone through having a thermometer giving bad readings - we waited a day or two until we could have a dialysis clinic nurse provide a second thermometer. Using them both - this thermometer consistently gave readings of two to three degrees higher. No two readings matched - and this one was always higher.
The warranty allows only for shipping to the factory - with $2.00 - for "repair". Together with providing a box and shipping out - this would come to half the cost of simply replacing the item.
My main concern here is that someone would purchase this who only uses it if they think they or their loved one does have a fever. It could certainly cause someone to rush off to the Emergency Room or pay a doctor or clinic when nothing is actually wrong, or when the fever is only 99 but the thermometer reads it as 101 or 102 - a significant difference in this case.
