I purchased a DR968 unit thinking it was a true "quartz heat.." The marketing of a "Quartz" heater lead me to believe a quartz heater would give you more BTU's per kilowatt.. The unit was purchased Feb 2012 and it died 3 1/2 years later (it has a three year warrant.!!!!.) Being slightly mechanical I decided to take the unit apart to possibly locate the problem.. (even though the outside of the unit box clearly states: "there are no serviceable parts inside unit"..) Well, after a lengthily dismantling job (I dont think they want you in there !!) low and behold I found one small quartz tube (the one you can see from the front) and 2 electrical resistant heating coils... Yes, electric resistance heating... Now I know "heat" is "heat" but I am upset this isn't anywhere in there advertisements and I think there many be others potential customers out there like me who bought (or will buy this) thinking it was saving me money while producing heat for my cold house.. I dont think so.. The issue that really bothers me is these small coils on the resistance heating element were clogged with DUST... The dust filter on the rear of the unit was/is worthless and I'm convinced thats what caused the unit to fail.. There should be more truth in advertising.. I do not recommend this unit..
