Nothing different than others except a better on/off button. Does not meet FAA rules.
Is this bright? Yes - if you look directly at it. Pressing on the clear dome cover to turn it on / off and select fast / slow / steady is pretty neat. You don't have to find a tiny button like so many other strobes. You even get two other covers to change the light from white to red or green. Understand, placing the red or green filter on it cuts down the light. Green reduces it by around 50% and red is reduced even more, to about 30% of white. I used a LX-1010B light meter to measure. Performance: Can you see this 3 miles away? Maybe if it faces you but certainly not from the side or any angle a plane flys at. The FAA wants a strobe anti-collision light that can be seen for 3 miles minimum in the horizontal plane of the aircraft in all the 360 degrees around it. Since you cannot see this light from its side further than a few hundred feet this does not meet the FAA requirements. Ther FAA does not care if you can see it vertically. Airplanes don't fly straight up & down, just typically a maximum of 15 degrees when climbing and 6 degrees or less when descending. That's why the light needs shine outwards, not up. I measured the amount of light vs degrees from horizontal: Deg. Pct. 0 15% 15 22% 30 42% 45 65% 60 77% 90 100% The readings were take with the light about 1 foot away from the meter sensor and the sensor has a diameter of about an inch so the strobe at zero degrees (horizontal) the top of the sensor picks up light coming in at an angle, not just 0 deg. light. The true 0 deg. light amount is next to nothing as it's only internal refraction via the plastic top. Having a strobe that is giving only 22% of it's maximum light at 15 deg angle is not going to satisfy the FAA rule. For their tests they must have pointed it sideways. And what the heck do they mean by " MEETS ALL FAA GUIDELINES for drone anti-collision lighting" ? The FAA has Rules & Regulations for drone lights, not guidelines. So that could be true, because meeting non-existent "GUIDELINES " is easy. On an engineering note: There are 4 LED's. Three of them are wired in parallel with a 3 ohm resistor for current limit. This is B A D. LED's need their own resistor or else at some point they may go into Self Destruct mode. The 4th LED also has it's own 3 ohm resistor so it is brighter than the other 3 LED's. The LiPo battery charging circuit looks to be software controlled by the controller chip vs an industry standard charger chip. This light & misleading statements about FAA requirements is no different than lights by other companies, except its nifty switch. If you want to meet FAA requirements, you will need at least 3 if not 4 lights, each pointing outward sideways from your drone. At $50 a wack, that'll set you back quite a lot.
