880 vs. 650
This is not necessarily a negative review, but a review that should make you consider the Roomba 650 instead. I had two Roomba 880s before I switched to the 650; the 880s were never able to find their home docking station. I'm not sure if they were defective, I had a poor layout in my house, or they just weren't that intuitive, but I did switch to the 650. THAT is not really why I would like others to consider the 650. Here is why: 1. HEPA is actually only attainable in a closed seal on your dust bin, something that a battery operated machine will never have the power to do. It is just a marketing ploy--feel free to look this up and not take my word for it. 2. The virtual wall/lighthouse feature was worthless on both of my 880s. I let the Roomba Jr. (as I call it, the 650 model that is) run its course a couple of times a week and it is able to clean all visible carpet that I can tell, and return to its docking station. No need for the virtual wall/lighthouses in my opinion. 3. No remote with the 650, but why do you need one? 4. The only truly remarkable (albeit probably not worth $300 more) advantage of the 880 is the brushes have no bristles, so you do not have to clean them. 5. It's really not that much quieter than the 650, although people claim this in reviews. 6. Battery life between 880 and 650 were the same. 7. I have terrible allergies and they did not change between models. Our 650, Roomba Jr., has been smarter and more effective than the big brother. In fact, we empty just as much from the bin weekly in Jr. as we did the 880. I really can't see the purpose of purchasing an 880. I hope my review doesn't go overlooked since there are so many reviews out there.
