It's an Experience
Look, I did not go into this expecting a great experience. This is Fruit Stripe, after all. The gum that loses flavor faster than my parents lost their faith in me. That's pretty darn quick. I knew it was going to be bad, I just wanted to know HOW bad and WHAT KIND of bad. This was something I chose to do to myself for science. Or something. There are three flavors but not as listed on the package. You get kind of lemon if you inhale sharply while chewing vigorously, vaguely red, and the rubber from your childhood training wheels if gnawed on while thinking about an orange push pop. So I guess kind of nostalgic in a sense. The aftertaste is both bitter and a void of flavor at the same time. And it lingers. You really get the sense of having un-eaten something or maybe moreso having eaten something that should have been inedible. The scent is stronger than the flavor and the flavor is stronger in the burp that rumbles up from your confused stomach after eating a few. The confusion, I'm thinking, stems from the fact that from texture to flavor, these things do indeed seem like something not meant to be eaten. They're not food. Maybe rebranded, scented erasers. The kind that you stick on your perfectly good eraser and they don't erase but they're cute. My bestie suggested they're made from the recycled, prechewed Fruit Stripe gum. It seems plausible. I did not have the time to chew one long enough to see if the gummy candy would actually break down. It's very chewy and bouncy and until further testing is done, I'm considering it indestructible. The most bizarre thing about this candy, though, if it's legal to call it such... is that if you cram one of each flavor into your mouth it somehow tastes like less. The vague ghosts of flavors cancel each other out and you're left with a mouthful of taste-null rubber questioning your life choices. Do I regret buying these? No. Like I said, it was an experience. One I inflicted on my best friend along with me so we got to bond over the confusion and revulsion. I definitely got my money's worth in that regard. I would not recommend these as a tasty treat, but if you're in the market for more questions than any bag of gummy candy could possibly have answers, go ahead an snag yourself some of these. Good luck.
