This last year I was having so much trouble with the Body Ecology Kefir starter I finally tried the grains. It always seemed to me the packet starter kefir would be easier and I am here to tell you I was wrong, wrong, wrong!! What I have thought was kefir all these years made from the packet starters even when they did turn out I am now realizing was nothing more than kefir "wanna be". This stuff I and my husband are drinking from the grains is so delicious there is no comparison to all the kefir I have drank from the starter packets. Also you do not have to measure the temp of the milk or sterilize anything. My husband said just today,"This stuff is so good, and it turns out every time!! It bothered both of us earlier this year that so much of the body ecology kefir turned out so spoiled we couldn't drink it and throwing all that organic milk out is tough on the budget! That stuff is not cheap!!! I recommend a video at culturesforhealth.com that is really good at showing you how to make milk kefir with the grains. It's free , a you tube type thing. I didn't buy mine there but they got good reviews from quite a few people. The ones available at Amazon here sound good too. I paid 20.dollars {includes shipping} at kefirlady.com and that is it. Nada. No more 27 dollar for 6 packets for me. And according to all the reading I have done there are alot more probiotic nutrients in the grains and they do not decrease over time as the packets do. I personally think Donna Gates is a real sharp gal. I have read her book Body Ecology. That's why I am real surprised she's selling the starter packets rather than the grains. Maybe she will soon. Also, as a final note, hint, I would like to mention that when the grains are first mailed to you,for about the first week the kefir does not taste that good. This is because they are stressed from the shipping process and being without milk for awhile. the first couple batches we did throw out and after that just added a little milk to improve the taste for about one week and now the kefir is so delicious it is a daily treat for everyone. Even our dogs just love it!! It is very good for your pets health also!!
