I'd return these today if it wouldn't make my kids cry.
I purchased two of these tablets for my five-year old boys. The charger cable is poorly made and broke the first time my son unplugged his tablet. This made him cry.
The enclosed case does not provide screen protection and would only help with damage caused by a drop. im not too worried because Amazon will replace the tablets for two years, but what about the charger cable?
I've also found that the interface is far too complex and restrictive for a kids tablet. It's difficult for children to arrange apps/books/games and managing the carousel isn't handled cleanly from a UI perspective. You can't expect a five-year-old to be able to handle profile switching. I just want each tablet to only have a kid's profile, with parental controls. Instead, the tablets require an adult profile on each, which only frustrates the kids because they just want to swipe up and read books, but they're forced to input a PIN.
I'm an Amazon Prime subscriber, but my kids can't watch their programs on this tablet because Prime Video can't be installed on a FreeTime profile. At least we got NetFlix to work, though we did see an error message. I like the breadth of content in the FreeTime library, though, and we've found lots of great kids books to read.
The tablets also often fail to refresh/load and need to regularly be turned off and back on again. Not a big deal except for when a child is crying because their tablet is always "Frozen!"
I'm not returning these because it would break my kids' hearts to have their "iPads" taken away, but I should have just bought them iPad Minis.
