Look, we both know you are looking at this plane because it's cheap and you don't want to spend $200 on a good plane. I can tell you now, this is not your plane. Buy a used one and fix it up if you can't afford something else. Take it from me, I took the dive for you. Just back away slowly. Upon opening the box I immediately noticed the plane blade bent upward on the back side, as well as the lateral adjustment lever. Placed flat on my bench the back end of the blade sits 5/16" off the work surface. I hand bent the blade back to shape - same with the lateral adjustment lever, though it gave that sudden give that metal does right when you hit the mechanical fatigue point right before it snaps. Paint was flaking off the body.Nickle-size spots are missing paint on either side of the mouth (guessing it was assembled before the paint dried and it was smeared off). The chip breaker has almost no camber at the point where it meets the blade and the edge there is rounded causing shavings to jam in the chip breaker stopping you dead. If I were to remove as much metal as would be required to make a sharp mating surface I would have to grind away the entire camber...which maybe I'll do then heat and bend a new camber on the chip breaker. Wow. The locating slot on the chip breaker is also cut too far up so it rests too far down on the frog making it so that if I have it more than about 1mm from the the edge of the blade it will make the blade protrude through the mouth even when the adjust knob is screwed all the way in.The blade edge itself was well ground and square. It took little time to sharpen, because the metal is incredibly soft. The first time it hit the 1/2" edge grain of a pine board I could see the glint of the edge curled up. I would suggest that for $45 including shipping you just look into buying an old plane off ebay. You are going to spend just as much time getting a used plane into shape as you are tuning this POS and the used one will be better quality materials.
