Bought this for a camping trip last year...I figured it would make a nice "bush" shovel for light-duty latrine work. It arrived an hour before I left town for the trip. I never got the chance to use it for latrine duty as it broke about the third swing into loosening up the topsoil at the "pin" during a horseshoe game. The ground was very firm and dry and I was using the shovel with the blade 90-degrees to the handle (like a pick) and the tool failed at the hinge. Closer inspection revealed that although the majority of this shovel is well-built, the bracket that attaches the handle to the blade is way too thin and flimsy. I have since rebuilt the shovel and it works as intended now. Heads-up Gerber engineers...this isn't the first failure at this location on this tool. Research your product and take the opportunity to improve it! Bottom line, pass up on this tool until the bugs are worked out.
