Wacky Sound Effects is a simple soundboard that for some reason requires a lot of nasty permissions. The UI is pretty sloppy, and so is the sound quality. Homer Simpson's "Who Hoo" (and many others) actually have staticy crinkling noises in the background. There is nothing here that you can't find online (for free and with better quality to boot) and charging for such a limited soundboard is obscene. The Good: - I found nothing good about this app. The Bad: - The UI is terrible, presented as a scrolling list of sound effects by letter. - Low quality sound recordings. The effects seem to (mostly) be pulled from the internet. This alone renders this soundboard worthless. - Trying to charge for what is available for free elsewhere. There are countless better (and free) soundboards for you to play with. - Fake five star reviews. - Lots of unnecessary permissions (explained below). The Ugly: - Permissions explained: - Read only access to phone state - This permission gives an application access to the IMEI, IMSI, and your phone number (as well as incoming and outgoing calls). So think of it as a massive tracking cookie that keeps tabs on everything you do, and that you had no choice in installing. Many software developers use this permission to track purchases and piracy. However the potential for disaster is huge here. A lot of companies will pay good money to get the information above, and once that falls into their hands... - System tools - Modify global system settings - This permission allows Wacky Sound Effects to mess around with anything and everything that you can if you were to go rampart in your "Settings" menu. Some scary stuff there. Scores: App is a 1/5. Permissions are a 1/5. Combined score: 1/5. If you really want a soundboard, then Wacky Sound Effects is worth it as today's free download. I would stay away as there are many other better quality (and free) soundboards out there.
