Blocks upper socket and causes RFI/EMI interference with Speakers
First I'll start with the positive. Once I got the units to communicate I get 1gbps speeds.
However there are quite a few negatives I want to mention:
I don't like that it blocks the upper outlet older models didn't do this so I don't know how this design regressed.
Setting up the device was finicky in that I had to go back and forth up and down stairs to press the sync button for 3 seconds repeatedly until the units finally synced.
The real reason I gave this only 2 stars is that the powerline adapter causes my external speakers to have massive static that corresponds to the amount of data being sent. If I go to speedtest web site the speakers go nuts regardless of volume set on the speakers (even set to volume level 0). Netgear Tech support were unable to provide any guidance. They just told me to return the product. I figured out a work around on my own. Battery powered speakers did not have the problem at all so that let me to believe it had to be intereference from the powerline adapter. The work around I found was I had to buy an additional CableWholesale Surge Protector with 1 Outlet, 540 Joules and EMI/RFI Filter (50W1-905302) to make the static go away, plus I had to plug the speakers into another outlet with that filter. There is still a tiny bit of EMI/RFI noise but its much better with the filter I'm thinking of ordering a second EMI/RFI filter adapter to ADD to my existing one to see if it eliminates all static.
Never would I have thought that speaker noise would be a problem when I purchased this product.
Pros
- Ethernet Connection is at 1Gigabit speed
Cons
- Device blocks the upper outlet
- Syncing is finicky,
- Internet traffic over powerline adapter causes static on external computer speakers. (Required purchase of additional EMI/RFI Filter adapter)
