Defective
The Kindle 2 is a great idea. However the design is defective. After a 5 inch drop the bottom half of the screen no longer works. Any mobile device (and even some non mobile) dropped 5 inches can and should continue to function normally. After having the device for less than 24hrs my friend had his fall out of the box a measly 5 inches, and now the screen is unusable, no visible damage to any other part of the K2. The only problem is the signal to the bottom half of the screen is no longer reaching it. That's very poor quality. Even worse is the customer service, round and round you go refusing any returns or exchanges. I understand some of you may say, "well it was dropped so of course they won't exchange it." But if you really think about any device that costs a couple of hundred dollars (cell phones, tvs etc) if they travel 5 inches (look at a ruler it's a minuscule distance) they will continue to work with out a problem. The customer service is only there to say, "No we CAN'T exchange it because it is a user induced defect." That's not really true, they just won't and the defect isn't user induced. The fragility of this piece of mobile technology is unacceptable, I would fully expect the device to break after a 30 inch drop as they advertise on the amazon website that it can withstand. However, customer service seems to think that it shouldn't be able to withstand a 5 inch drop? Makes no sense. So we're off to contact the Amazon legal department, Amazon should be held accountable for the advertised performance of the devices they sell. Be warned if you don't treat your cell phone like a baby don't get the Kindle b/c it can't even stand up to the normal use of a mobile device.
