Specs and design based. the price/performance of this thing is great. I immediately loved the picture quality, and I'm sure freesync gaming is all its cracked up to be. However, with all the QC complaints here, the first thing I did was check for defects, and it was not hard to find several. The worst part is these are NOT dead pixel issues. I now understand what one reviewer called "grease spots". One spot near the center is some kind of dust or grease spot covering multiple pixels. Another in the bottom right I am pretty sure is an eyelash. A little more scanning and I saw a few very tiny specs ~1 px large, more dust I think because it was not off or stuck like a dead pixel, just darker than the rest of the area. Clearly Asus is not building these in a cleanroom - what a terrible waste of an amazing panel. While I'm sure some people are avoiding the large defects, I have little confidence that any monitor won't have the tiny dust particles. Unacceptable for a $500+ monitor.
