BUYER BEWARE! This machine may decide to malfunction while attempting to attain high pressure at odd times for no apparent reason and there may be no recourse that Breville will offer you if your video of that malfunction is not presented to them demonstrating the problem from start to finish. I kid you not. I purchased this machine in April and enjoyed a brief honeymoon. A month later we had guests over who were eager to see our new machine since they were a chef and partner and their four kids. The embarrassment started early. The high pressure malfunctioned, consistently reading "seal not maintained" or something similarly useless no matter what the repair attempted, which were several all according to manual. Dinner was completed by actually "preheating" or attempting to get the unit to reach high pressure so many times that this accumulative heat eventually forced the vegetables and then meat to cook anyhow. In case your interested in this as a get to know your neighbors process, it took about 3 hours. Later that same week with time permitting I found myself in a lengthy discussion with a Breville adviser who eventually tells me that the only way that the company will take in my unit for inspection and possible repair or replacement is that I actually video the accused units malfunction in the act of malfunctioning. I am suddenly on trial and the burden of proof falls on what I now do. In an effort to maintain my emotional response to this insult I ask how many companies in the US have ever done this? No response. I was given minute by minute detail as to how to perform this exacting test. It involved a specific quantity of cold water (maybe a quart) in the basket and visuals of all parts being thoroughly cleaned. Primarily convinced at this point that I was about to make a fine video of a dumb machine royally screwing up, I let myself actually film this insane process with my iPhone, spewing as much sarcasm and venom as possible of course, and guess what? The Breville worked perfectly. It worked perfectly again under perfect conditions, as I believe the Breville people could only know that it would. The Breville can undoubtedly sustain a high pressure of a small amount of clear water consistently. And maybe there are other Breville machines that can do better. Mine can't. I have no recourse but to print this story as is. It is the truth about my machine and nothing but the truth. And oh yes, here is the codicil: I got up my gumption to run my fancy Breville for my brother who came over this weekend with his wife for dinner. He says to me after a few now customary stalled efforts, "Why don't you get a Cuisinart?" I told him that quite frankly I was still holding out for a repair or a replacement, but really and truly I believe Breville should just give me the few hundred dollars back. I have no faith in this company.
