Questionable quality.... Caveat Emptor
I bought several of these "CAT6" cables to run ethernet all over the house.... long cables in white and shorts in black. I decided to replace the odd mishmash of CAT5e that was in place with what I thought was an upgrade.... poor choice. I immediately noticed increased buffering while streaming. I checked out YouTube and found several unfavorable reviews about flat ethernet cable. The only favorable feature of flat cable is their ease of being stapled. I included a photo showing a comparison: • The white cable on top is the flat. You can see CAT6 printed on the jacket. While I didn't take a micrometer to the individual wires, they are very thin. • The black cable is a CAT6 Amazon Basics. Notice the 8-strand, 4 twisted pair configuration with a spiraled divider (this is real CAT6 in my opinion) • The gray cable is what I ended up rewiring my screwup with... CAT6A unshielded 23GA copper riser. I bought a 1000' spool and custom made my own cable runs. Bottom line on these flats: • Very thin wires • Untwisted.... twisted pairs is important • No spiral divider... again, an important feature PS: When my cable man saw that I was using these, he warned me that they "weren't, in his opinion, any good".
